Eucalyptus for Cold Season: Comforting Ways to Breathe Easier
Share
When the sniffles arrive and your head feels like a brick, eucalyptus is the scent that says 'breathe.' It won't cure a cold — nothing does — but it makes the misery more bearable. Here's how to use it.
Steam inhalation
Add 2–3 drops of eucalyptus oil to a bowl of hot (not boiling) water, drape a towel over your head and breathe the steam for a few minutes. The classic comfort move.
Shower steam
No energy for a bowl? Drop a few onto the shower floor away from the stream and let the hot water carry the aroma up. A whole-bathroom version.
Bedside diffuser
A diffuser running eucalyptus (or eucalyptus with a little peppermint) by the bed gives a fresh, opening aroma overnight when you're congested.
Comfort, not cure — and safety
Eucalyptus is aromatic comfort care. Don't ingest it, dilute for skin, keep it away from the eyes, and never use eucalyptus or peppermint around the faces of infants and young children. If symptoms are severe or lasting, see a professional.
