Can You Use Eucalyptus Oil on Hair?
Share
Eucalyptus is famous for the diffuser and the shower — but can it earn a place in your hair routine? Diluted and used sensibly, yes. Here's the practical guide.
What it offers the scalp
Eucalyptus has a fresh, clarifying quality and is traditionally used for a clean, comfortable scalp. The cooling sensation feels refreshing, and it pairs naturally with a scalp massage.
How to use it
- Dilute 3–4 drops of eucalyptus oil into a tablespoon of castor oil or another carrier.
- Massage into the scalp, not the lengths.
- Leave 20–30 minutes, then shampoo out.
- Once or twice a week is plenty.
It blends well with rosemary for a scalp-focused treatment — see our scalp health guide.
Who should skip it
Eucalyptus is potent. Patch test first, never apply neat, keep it away from the eyes, and avoid use around young children. Sensitive scalps may prefer a gentler oil.
