Castor Oil for Eyebrows and Lashes: A Realistic Guide
Share
Castor oil is the internet's favourite lash-and-brow remedy. Before you dab it on tonight, here is the realistic version — what to expect, and how to do it safely.
What castor oil actually does
Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid and is deeply moisturising and conditioning. It does not contain a drug that forces hair to grow — so it will not transform sparse brows overnight. What it can do is condition the hairs you have, reduce breakage, and make brows and lashes look fuller, glossier and healthier. For many people, "less breakage" looks a lot like "more hair" over a few weeks.
How to use it safely
- Start with a clean, makeup-free face.
- Dip a clean spoolie or cotton swab into a little castor oil — a tiny amount.
- For brows, brush through in the direction of growth. For lashes, sweep along the base of the upper lashes, taking care to keep oil out of your eyes.
- Leave overnight and rinse in the morning. Use 3–4 nights a week.
Safety first
Patch test first. Use very little near the eyes — too much can migrate and irritate. If you wear lash extensions or have had any eye procedure, check with your specialist before using oils.
