Scalp Health 101: The Routine That Actually Makes a Difference

We pour money into our lengths and ignore the soil they grow from. But healthy hair, like a healthy plant, starts at the root. Here is a no-nonsense scalp routine.

1. Clean — but don't strip

A healthy scalp is balanced, not squeaky. Wash often enough to clear buildup and excess oil, but harsh, daily stripping can backfire and leave the scalp irritated and overcompensating.

2. Exfoliate weekly

Just like facial skin, the scalp sheds dead cells and accumulates product. A gentle weekly scalp exfoliation — a scrub or a brush — keeps follicles clear and primes the scalp to absorb treatments.

3. Massage daily

Two to three minutes of fingertip massage supports circulation at the scalp and, honestly, feels wonderful. It is the cheapest, most underrated step in hair care.

4. Treat 2–3x a week

This is where a targeted oil earns its place. Blend a few drops of rosemary oil (for circulation) or peppermint oil (for a cooling, clarifying feel) into a castor oil base, massage in, leave 30 minutes or overnight, and wash out. Our rosemary guide has the full method.

5. Be patient

The scalp responds to consistency, not intensity. Give any routine three to six months. Build your kit from Asuka's pure oils → and treat the scalp like the skin it is.
