Peppermint Oil for Oily Skin and Breakouts (Use With Care)
Share
Peppermint oil has a fresh, clarifying reputation that draws people with oily, congested skin. It can be lovely — but it's potent, and 'more' absolutely is not 'better' here. Caution first.
What it can do
That cooling menthol sensation feels refreshing on hot, oily skin, and peppermint's clean aroma is part of a pleasant routine. Some find a well-diluted peppermint product helps skin feel less greasy and more awake.
The careful way to use it
- Dilute heavily — around 1% (1 drop of peppermint oil per teaspoon of a light carrier). Our carrier oils guide covers ratios.
- Patch test on the jaw and wait 24 hours.
- Use sparingly and not daily at first.
Important cautions
Never apply peppermint oil neat to the face, and keep it well away from the eyes — the vapours alone can sting. If you have sensitive or reactive skin, or active inflamed acne, peppermint may irritate; a fragrance-free routine is often kinder. When in doubt, see a dermatologist.
