Amla for Hair: The Ayurvedic Secret to Strength and Shine
Share
Long before serums and supplements, there was amla. The Indian gooseberry has anchored Ayurvedic hair care for centuries — and unlike most ancient remedies, it has a real nutritional story behind it.
Why amla and hair go together
Amla is extraordinarily rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Traditionally it is used to strengthen hair from the root, support a healthy scalp, and bring out shine and depth of colour. In Ayurveda it is considered cooling and balancing — a tonic for both scalp and strands.
1. A strengthening hair mask
Mix 2–3 tablespoons of amla powder with warm water (or yoghurt) into a paste. Apply from scalp to ends, leave 30–45 minutes, and rinse. Once a week is plenty.
2. An amla hair-oil infusion
Warm a tablespoon of amla powder gently in a carrier oil, cool, strain, and use the infused oil for scalp massages. Pair it with rosemary oil for a scalp-focused blend.
3. From the inside out
Hair is built from what you eat. A teaspoon of amla powder in water, juice or a smoothie adds a vitamin-C punch that supports hair from within.
